MAHD: Rhare artist of the month

Detroit’s newest artist MAHD is adding energy to his career after his first EP release "MAHD ALMIGHTY". He released several songs and videos including "Lotus", a cover of Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Otis". MAHD has been featured on many social and music sites as VIBE.com, 2dopeboyz, Kevin Nottingham, and other main music websites. After writing and making songs the last few years for other musicians and himself, MAHD made his entry  into the music scene with his single "Pretty Ladies". The song dropped online to great acceptance  and love, and the official video is presented on World Star Hip Hop. "Pretty Ladies" continues to obtain steady radio and club play across the Midwest, most outstandingly in his hometown of Detroit. MAHD can be found on iAmMAHD.com and Datpiff.com.  

RhareFootage had the pleasure to interview MAHD , and get a better look at this “Rhare” artist.

1)            How long have you been performing/making music?

I've always messed around with music but I started taking it serious around 2010.

2)            How would you describe your music?

I would describe my music as heart felt and authentic. Like a collage of everything I came up on, with my own touch added to it.

3)            What inspired you to write your single “Hello Detroit”?

My city inspired me. When AwillTraxx  first sent the beat, I instantly felt the need to speak on my city. I just heard Hello Detroit once I hit play. The rest is history.

4)            What should your fans know about your album “13”?

This album is very personal. It's everything that happened in the year 2013. From start to finish. The good, bad and ugly. I really took my time on this album so I want people to just hear my story. Hopefully some can relate.

5)            What made  you pursue your dream of music?

Initially, I would always say I never wanted to rap for real. After a while of hearing many people say I need to take it serious, plus me not being satisfied from the music that was being put out at the time...I finally decided let me see what I can do. I just wanted to make music that I'd like to hear.

6)            When  was the moment you knew music was your passion?

I grew up surrounded by music. From my family to my friends. So I've always had a passion for music and it's always been around me. Even if I wasn't doing this full time I’d still be just as passionate about music. It's a major part of my life.

7)            What inspires you and your music?

Life experiences. I make sure I talk about my life, what I've done and seen personally. It comes out in the music. I feel like if I talk about my life then I'll always have something to talk about.

8)            Would you say being from Detroit influence your music? If so why?

Yes, definitely. I grew listening to Slum Village, Dilla's beats, Royce, Em and the list goes on. It definitely set a standard in my eyes of where my music should be. Detroit has made some of the best artists in the world so being from here definitely influences me. Also just the city and people itself play a major role.

9)            Do you believe your musical roots influence your music?

My musical background plays a big part in my career. Coming up I got to see the ends and outs of making music and the industry. So when I started it was like second nature.

10)          How would you describe yourself as an artist?

I would describe myself as an artist that can't be put in a box. Lyrical, original, aggressive, versatile and more. I'm always looking to get better and learn new things. I push myself with this music.

11)          Describe yourself in one word and explain why you chosen that word to describe you.

Determined. I say this because no matter what comes my way I'm determined to get where I'm trying to go. I won't let anyone or anything stop me.

12)          What would you be doing if you were not doing music?

I'm not really sure. Maybe I would've went back to school or something. It's kind of hard to say now that I'm doing it because I can't see me doing anything else.

13)          What do you look to for inspiration when writing your lyrics?

I normally only record when I've already been inspired by something. I write about my life so when something happens. Good or bad, I write about it. So I normally don't have to look for inspiration because if I haven't been inspired by anything then I'm not getting in the booth.

14)          What do you want people to take away from your music when they hear it?

I’d like them to take away something they can relate to. Rather it be a line I said or a whole song, if they can relate and it helps them get through their day then I've done my job. I feel like everyone goes through similar things so what I'm rapping about, someone else may be able to relate to it.

15)          What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into the music business?

Be prepared. You have to be prepared mentally and physically. There's a lot of ups and downs in this game and if you're not mentally prepared you may feel like giving up. Also stay ready so you won't have to get ready. This industry isn't easy so staying ready helps to make the job a tad easier.

16)          If you can say anything to your fans, what would it be?

I honestly appreciate everyone that rocks with me. Everyone that comes to my shows or help spread my music or support in anyway. I appreciate all of it and it helps me to keep going. Shoutout to the fans!

17)          What makes you a rhare artist?

What makes me rhare is I stay true to myself no matter what. Also I feel I'm the best. Seeing that there can only be one best at a time I think that makes me very rhare lol.

Yes everyone this weekend is Labor Day weekend. I remember every year my aunt and uncle would go down to Hart Plaza to go watch the performances. This festival is the sign to the citizens of the city of Detroit that summer has come to a close and fall is here. I would tell anyone to come to Detroit and experience the Jazz Festival and I promise you after you come the first time, you would come back every year.

Chicago and Men's Fashion Week Chicago Finale show

     Sorry for the long wait, but I had to make sure everything was right before I post this. The last weekend in June, I along with my best friend went to Chicago, Ill. We really enjoyed ourselves. We went to the DUI fashion show which was the finale for Men's Fashion Week Chicago. Coming from Detroit, a city known for it's mix of classic and future fashion sense, I knew I had to bring it. The show was held at DuSable Museum of African American History located 740 E 56th Pl, Chicago, IL 60637.  The show and the week long event was organize by the one and only Blake Martin. The show was hosted by Tony Harper of VH1's Hollywood EXES and Andrea Kelly of VH1's Hollywood EXES, acclaim choreographer and dancer.

      Someone like myself that only see fashion shows on television or just read about them, I had a stereotyped thought in my mind of how it was going to go. The show was high beat the total time which was totally the opposite I thought it was going to be. The show had everything from comedy from the hostess, hot fashion, dance numbers, and celebrity model Sessilee Lopez. Unkowning to me there were a couple designers in the show that were from Detroit. It was great and fresh breath of air to see young people doing positive things and place a positive light on to their city. It was also great to see how the show did not show favoritism between the newer designers and the more known designers. Everyone had their respected time on stage. I know you thinking because it was Men's Fashion Week that it was only clothing for me, but you are wrong there was clothes and designs for men and women. Blake Martin made sure that whoever came to his show would have an expereince unlike anything before. There were a list of wonder designers  at the end of the video and, please go look up all these wonderful designers and their work, you will not regret it.

Kandis Page Photography

Hello everyone!!

                I’m so sorry for the long delay in my posting. I had some real life issues to handle. Now, I am back to let you all know about a wonderful photography company in the Detroit called Kandis Page Photography LLC. Once I saw the beautiful pictures and hometown pride, I knew I had to get an interview with this wonder photographer. After speaking with her about her company, I could tell right away that photography is not a hobby for her, yet it is a passion.  1.           When did you start doing photography?

                I have always loved to take photos; however, I began to do serious photography about three years ago.

2.     What kind of photos do you like to shoot?

When I began shooting I wanted to do high fashion photography, but eventually acquired a love for environmental and architectural photography. Soon after I thought it would be smart of me to be well rounded and look into all forms of photography.

3.   When did your company start?          

My company became official (LLC) as of late 2012.

4.   Which moment have you had on site that made you say “I love what I do"? 

I think for me whenever I can capture moments that people would otherwise miss out on, is what makes me say “I love what I do” or when someone has seen their pictures and are extremely happy.

5.   Do you think you living in Detroit influence your work or style of photography?

Living in Detroit certainly influenced my work. Detroit has always had so much to show and still does, but the fact that the world projects Detroit in such a negative light sometimes only inspires me to want to show the world what they truly miss out on, on a positive note with Detroiters and our beautiful city!

6.  What word would best describe your passion for your company and your talent?

Committed, would be the best word to describe my company and my talent.

7.  Who or what is your inspiration?        

Wow! This is a tough one!! I can honestly say I find inspiration from so much. More than anything my parents are my motivation. They showed me what it was to own a business at a young age because they owned one while still while still maintaining other jobs from time to time. With that being said I had the opportunity to see the flexibility, commitment, and hard work of a business and what it took to own one. Once I got a little older I receive the opportunity to work at various companies/businesses in which I received much experience, however I was building someone else’s dream, which is also inspiration in itself because not many will take the chance to step away from that and say I want to do something different. Aside from those things my family, my friends, my CITY, other artistic works (not just photography) and even my own work are my motivation also!

8.  Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years I want to be completely established. I want to be a master at my craft but still be a student to my craft is that makes sense. In addition to that, I want to have given at least about ten to twenty scholarships to high school seniors looking to pursue the field of photography after they graduate, teach people what I learned and what it took to become successful, have more photography equipment (of course lol), I want to have retired my parents, have a nice size studio, I want to have traveled the world to have pictures of everywhere. Most importantly I want to have been able to give back. Although I know my answer seems very “photography driven”, photography is my life and I love it! I just want to be able to open new doors for everyone, not just photographers, show people that owning your own business can be done, help build my city up in the best light possible, and be the go to person whenever people are looking for photography need.

9.   Out of all the photos you have taken, which one is your favorite to shoot?   

Man, that’s a hard one too but hands down, I would have to say the pictures I take around the city are some of my favorite!

Creative

11.  Do you think Detroit is a good back drop for photography?  

Of course! As I touched on in some of the others questions, Detroit has so much to see and show the world. I can’t lie, I think we as Detroiters even take for granted what it is that we have to offer sometimes. We have some of the best areas to take pictures and we are home to some of the greatest art!

12.  What made you start your company?            

What made me start my company was being tired of working for someone else, not to mention I wanted to do something I loved rather than just doing something to pay the bills. Photography was that thing for me!

13. Who would you say is your biggest supporters?         

My biggest supporters are family, friends, PEOPLE I DON’T KNOW, and my business partners! I’m a really self-motivated person, but the abundance love and support I get from all of these people is UNMATCHED and fuels my drive for what I do even more!

14.  How would you describe Detroit to a visitor of the city?        

I would describe Detroit to a visitor as “a diamond in the rough”. Though that makes perfect sense to a Detroiter it may be confusing to someone else even though it shouldn’t be. I would simply describe Detroit as a city that has its problems just like any other city however the positivity and talent that is here is overshadowed by so much negativity.

15.  Last question, what advice would give someone who wants to start their own photography company?         

The best advice that I can give to someone starting a photography business or any business for that matter is to stay consistent, know that sometimes that your family and friends will not be the first people to support you, believe in what it is you’re doing or no one else will, remove all emotions from business matters and DO NOT expect instantaneous results!

Are Ladies the new "MAN" now?

Everyone who knows me know that I am a very simple girl. The most simple things can bring a smile to my face and joy in my heart. With that being said, its also known that I dream big and go for those said dreams. I work hard to make my dreams come true, and help as many people as I can along the way. Due to this "go getta" attitude I have, a love life is hard to have.

I notice every guy I date complain that I don't have time for them. This is funny to me because I tell them all at the beginning all the things I do and want to achieve in life. Now, they are acting like little babies. Don't get it wrong, I love that a guy wants to be with me, but when it gets to the point it seems like you just free all the time because you always call or texting me. That's a big problem. I remembered a time when girls use to have to beg for a guy to spend time with them, now it's the other way around.

I don't know what it is. It seems like guys in my generation(i mean most guys not all) have no dreams, goals, and future plans. Once they come around a woman with goals, she is doing everything she can to make those dreams come true... all of a sudden she "stuck up" or "playing games" what's up with that? Don't you guys want that in a woman? I'm just saying. A woman that's strong enough to stand on her own beside you, strong enough to "pick up the tab" some times, and woman that can be your lover, friend, and most of all your support system. Now, when I say support system, I mean someone who helps you up when life kicks you down, some one who keeps you on the track to YOUR dream and not the dream you think that would impress her, and someone to just keep you motives you to go father than your current normal.

I just don't get it. I'm not saying that guys don't have the same issues with us ladies because they do. I'm speaking from what I see. Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to hear from you. Leave your comments and thoughts on this topic. Fellas tell me what you are looking for in a partner and same thing goes to you too ladies.

Spirit Day

Today is Spirit Day. This is a day to educate people on the horror of bullying, and teach young people to stand up to bullying. Today is the day to teach children to stand up to bullying, but not through fighting, yet by speaking up to up against the bully and tell an adult. It’s important for us as adults to teach children not to bully others because their different, and to tell an adult there is an act of bullying taken place.

I have my own personal stories of bullying. I experience bullying from classmates all the way to my own family members. It was a hard time for me and I still have my own struggles with it even today. I had friends who would stand up for me, and even teachers who took a stand against. My bullying story started in the fourth grade. It was valentine day and I gave a boy I had a crush on a card. He came over to me, and he picked up a red dictionary and began to hit me over and over again. Ever since then I would be scared to tell a guy I liked or crush on him. I even wore black every year until recently. I remember the school faculty tries to blame me for the fight. My parents took me out of the school.

Bullying is a topic I take seriously. To all you out there that are going through bullying, it will get better, trust me! I know it’s hard but it will get better. If you being bullied, tell an adult you can trust. If you see someone being bullied, take a stand! Tell an adult immediately and tell the bully it’s not cool to bully someone. We can end all the acts of teen suicides and youth trying to harm themselves. Don't let NO ONE convince you to end your life or hurt yourself. Keep your head up! I LOVE YOU ALL!

SELF LOVE/WEIGHT LOSS *LEAVE A COMMENT *

The topic of weight and weight loss has been in a heavy rotation in my mind for months now. It really had been a part of my life all my life. For many years, I always was the “fat girl” in my group of friends, and trust me; I played up every stereotype you can think of when it came down to it.  I did everything to show that I was happy, but I wasn’t. Until lately, I always played my weight and size as a joke so no one would feel sorry for me. Then I realize I was the only person feeling sorry for me. I realize I was attracting all the negative things to me by the way I was thinking.

                One day I went to the doctor for my annual checkup, when she asks me if I was thinking of starting a family any time soon. I said no, but it is part of my future plans. That’s when she drops the bomb on me. She told me at the weight I am now; carrying a child would be risky. I even could be on bed rest the whole time. Anyone who knows me know, I want children, and I do whatever it takes to have my children healthy,and being a mother is more important to me than anything. I started on a diet. Now, I’m being honest, it’s not a hard diet if a true diet at all. I walk more now that I am back in school and I do 20-30 squats a day. I can start to see my body changing. My friends are very supportive, but I learned that if you not happy with whom you are as a whole no matter how much weight you lose you still be unhappy.

By typing this post, IF I could help one person see how special they are and how they are worthy of love and happiness then I can say my job is done. There have been times I wanted to “end it all”, or felt unworthy to be loved. The day I realize that if I did all of the things I was thinking then I could not live my dream, and the ones who hurt me had won. I’m sorry, but I cannot go out that way. I’m here to tell ANYONE of you who have those dark thoughts of harming yourself or that you not loved.  I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!! If I can make it through the bullying from strangers all the way to my own family members, so can you. Everyone is here for a reason or purpose. DON’T LET ANYONE STEAL YOUR PURPOSE FROM YOU. I have been where you are, and I KNOW the pain and tears you cry, but trust me you are stronger than that. If you need someone to talk to write a letter to yourself and hide it from your sight for a day or two, and when you re-read the letter you wrote you will be amazed how strong you became after you overcame the problem. If you want, you can email me if you just want someone to talk to, or if you can’t talk to anyone around you about it. I just don’t want anyone to go through what I went through. 

NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY!!

I know this, I am late posting this, but I had to make sure I was clear in this post. I AM AN ALLY!!! I am also a Christian. With National Coming Out Day just passing on the calendar, it made me think about my gay and lesbian friends who came out to me in the past. The one thing they all had in common was they were afraid I would no longer be their friend, but that was far-removed from the truth. Yes I do have strong religious beliefs, yet I follow one major rule of my faith and that’s “thou shall not judge”. All I care about is if that person, rather boy or girl, is treating you with respect and love other than that I don’t care who you date.  I SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE!!!! I don’t understand what the problem is. I am working on a degree in Psychology, and I can tell you there is no real proof that a child growing up in a household with Same Sex parents are going to be gay or have terrible psychological issues. If they found someone they want to be with for the rest of their lives, and want to marry them. LET THEM!!!!! The world will not end and society will keep going on.

                There are 3 gay men that are my world. I call them my gay husbands. The nickname came about because they all have qualities I look for in my husband, and if they were straight I would totally date them. They are ranked by who came into my life first. I start backwards first.  Husband #3 I call him white chocolate. He is the newest member of the group. I met him through husband #1 because that’s his boyfriend. He is totally sweet and kind guy. The first time we met was at my birthday party last year. I know we have many more years of memories to come, so stay tune for that. #2 husband is my down for whatever husband. He’s also the only husband that watches Rupaul’s Drag Race with me. We talk about the makeup and dresses and the runway of all the queens. He is also the photographer of this family. He also keeps me up on all the underground artists and music. Now we reach the top dog of the group. Husband #1 is my protective and most professional out of all 3. We met 7 years ago and ever since we been together. All this boyfriends have to meet a standard that I have for him (I got to make sure he is a good man that’s all) and the same goes for my boyfriends have to meet his standards. He had opened my eyes to so much. He helps me with my budget, school, resumes, men/dating/ fashion, and my new project losing weight. He always keeps me on track to reaching my goals just like the other husbands. I don’t know where I would be without him in my life. He spoils me almost like a real husband, and our 7th anniversary is coming up October 17.  Yes, we celebrate an anniversary. I love all my husbands equally. One day I will be at their weddings.  I just wanted to tell all the young or old people out there that are scared to come out to friends/family. It’s OK to be who you are completely. If they truly love you then they will accept you for who you are, don’t for one second think that someone who say they love you truly do because if they are trying to get you to chance who you are, or make you feel ashamed of who you are then they don’t truly love you. I LOVE YOU ALL!!! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!  Remember YOU, YES YOU, YOU ARE PERFECT and were created by the most high and HE DID NOT MAKE NO MISTAKE WHEN HE CREATED YOU!!!!!!!!!  *kiss* 

                

Standing on the Soap box for Detroit

The last few months, I have made post regarding all that is positive and good in my home state and hometown. I started this blog to get the word out to young people like myself and even to people that are older than me, that the state of Michigan is not for “old people” or “retired auto workers” that there are great things to do in Michigan that people can have fun doing. I also started this blog to show the world that Detroit is not a city full of “thugs, robbers, killers, rapist, etc.” Yes, there is crime here in the city of Detroit, but we are a large city and crime everywhere not just in Detroit, but in your own neighborhoods. Detroit is a city full of history. History in music and national history. Did you know that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave the famous I have a Dream speech first in Detroit? Yes, right here.

                I am very passionate about my hometown. I cannot believe the media treats us (Detroit) as if we are some war torn country. This is the place that built the car you are driving in, yet you swipe us down like flies ruining your picnic. I do not hide the fact that there is crime in my city every day, or there are cold cases that may never get solved, yet that’s all the media, older generation of Detroit citizens see and talk about. How about the youth that’s trying to make the city better, and the people who trying to show the good in the city?  

                All I ask is this simple, unpretentious, and meek demand of you, my readers, followers, friends, and family. Before, you start to point your nose down on the city of Detroit or the state of Michigan as yourself these questions: Is this happening in my city or state? Would I be hurt or insult maybe even offended if this was said about my hometown or state? Are they truly trying to fix their problem?  Before you speak, type or record your transgress insult about Michigan, Detroit, OR our citizens please do remember that for every bad or negative thing you say about us, we can say about you too, yet we are more responsible, stable, considered, adult, and most important we are more established group of people not to point out your defects, failings, imperfections, weaknesses. I would go on and on about this topic But I wait to hear from you my readers and see what you think about this before I continue. Until then my loves, speak positive and live what you say.

If you don't like it change it!  As my dad use to tell me " someone made it off the boat, someone made it off the plantation, so no matter what you come up against there is no reason for you not making it" I love my home town and I started this blog because I became tired of seeing negative reports about Detroit in Detroit and on the national scale. I understand the city have major issues that need to be taken care of in the best way possible, but all the killing, attacks, and stealing have to stop. This blog is to uplift my city and bring light to the good and positive things that are here in Detroit. Detroit help build this country car by car, so don't let this city go down in ruins. I'm doing my part by showing all the good in the city. Mark Wahlberg have an interview on a late night showing saying how he had to convince his wife to come and vacation here, and the only reason she didn't want to come is because of what she heard about us on the news. He got her to come and she enjoy her time here. People, yes we have crime and money issues, but name one city or state in this country that do not have the same problems or worst. I say this to say I love my hometown. Detroit made me and now it's time to remake Detroit
